Genetic Counseling Process

Eastern Biotech and Life Science’s Genetic Counselors provide dedicated care and support, and help parents to understand the complexity of genetic testing.

Genetic counseling is the process of helping people understand and adapt to the medical, psychological and familial implications of genetic contribution to disease.

As part of the process, our genetic counselors are available on request to explain the science that underlies a genetic condition, and to help families cope with the emotions that may arise as they learn about the existence of, or risk of a genetic condition.

Genetic Counseling BenefitsBenefits of Genetic Counseling:

Before Testing

  • Before choosing to have genetic testing, families may want to understand the benefits and limitations of genetic testing.
  • Possible outcomes are explained, including abnormal, normal or unknown results and their potential significance.

  • After Testing

  • After testing is performed, families may want to understand what the specific results mean for the child as well as for other family members.
  • Regardless of the results, genetic counselors can help provide guidance for the next steps.
